New Evaluation System Introduced in 2025
In a significant move to ease academic stress and reduce unhealthy competition, CBSE has implemented a Relative Grading System starting with the 2024–25 academic session.
Unlike the previous fixed grading structure (e.g., 91–100 marks for A1, 81–90 for A2), the new system ranks students based on their performance in relation to their peers. This peer-based evaluation means grades may vary depending on the subject and the number of students passing.
Over 42 Lakh Students Appeared in 2025 Exams
The CBSE board exams 2025 were held from February 15 to April 4. Class 10 exams concluded on March 18, while Class 12 exams wrapped up on April 4. This year, over 42 lakh students appeared for the board exams across both classes.
To provide perspective, in 2024:
- Class 10: 22,38,827 students appeared; 20,95,467 passed. Pass percentage: 93.60%
- Class 12: 16,21,224 students appeared; 14,26,420 passed. Pass percentage: 87.98%
